Das muss man erstmal sortieren: Kiol ist Singer-Songwriter, Multi-Instrumentalist und Produzent, stammt ursprünglich aus dem italienischen Turin und nennt inzwischen London (UK) sein Zuhause. Sein Künstlername aber kommt aber ganz woanders her. Er erhielt ihn von Freunden, die ihn während einer Sommerschule im irischen Örtchen Mallow zum Singen und Songwriting ermutigten. “Ceol” klingt ausgesprochen wie “Kiol” und bedeutet Musik auf Gälisch. Genau die hat der Gute gerade wieder veröffentlicht: “Joy” heißt seine jüngste Single – und sie soll genau dieses Gefühl vermitteln. Die Nummer ist Vorbote seines Albums “Techno Drug Store”, das im Oktober erscheinen soll. Vorher nahm sich der Mann aber noch Zeit für unsere My-Soundtrack-Reihe.

That song was one of the first “ballads” that made me cry, and I still feel the same emotion if I listen to it now. Layne Staley was the first singer that inspired me. I wanted a powerful raspy voice and I started to work on my timber thanks to this song.

Als ich dieses Lied von Alice In Chains entdeckte, erkannte ich zum ersten Mal die Bedeutung einer kraftvollen und emotionalen Stimme. Dieses Lied war eine der ersten „Balladen“, die mich zum Weinen gebracht haben, und ich fühle immer noch die gleiche Emotion, wenn ich es jetzt höre. When I started writing folky acoustic songs, Angus & Julia Stone was one of the first band that inspired my song-writing. I remember this song as one of the first cover I posted on Facebook, when I was sixteen. The vibe of this song totally represents the mood I’m going for and the power of the duet always enchanted me. I started listening to Angus & Julia Stone because of this song, and from that moment on they became one of my greatest inspiration.

Ich erinnere mich an dieses Lied als eines der ersten Cover, die ich mit 16 auf Facebook gepostet habe. Die Stimmung dieses Songs repräsentiert total die Stimmung, die ich anstrebe. Die Kraft des Duetts hat mich immer verzaubert. Ich habe wegen dieses Songs angefangen, Angus & Julia Stone zu hören, und von diesem Moment an wurden sie zu einer meiner größten Inspirationen.
High and Dry – Radiohead
I was already a fan of Radiohead when I discovered this song. I remember I suddenly loved the way the acoustic guitar drives the song. It brings you into a cosy atmosphere where you feel safe and cuddled. The strength of the lyrics made me feel like I had a lot to say and I wanted to do it at best. I was eighteen when I listened to this song for the first time and from that moment on I understood which were the most important things in writing a song: the mood, the lyrics and a little fragile thing that gives soul to the song.

Und von diesem Moment an verstand ich, was die wichtigsten Dinge beim Schreiben eines Liedes waren: die Stimmung, die Texte und ein kleines zerbrechliches Ding, das dem Lied Seele verleiht.

This song was one of the most inspiring for me at the beginning of my musical project. I was really into Mumford & Sons, and I loved the way they blended the fragile and emotive lyrics with the power of a Hooligans song. That song made me feel like I wanted to let my inner self scream to the whole world. In most of their songs, Mumford & Sons gives you that kind of feeling. This song was very important to me to understand that everyone of us has fragile thoughts, and if you scream them loud, people wants to join you, because probably they feel the same.
Dieses Lied war zu Beginn meines musikalischen Projekts sehr inspirierend. Ich mochte Mumford & Sons sehr und ich fand es toll, wie sie die fragilen und emotionalen Texte mit der Kraft eines Hooligans-Songs mischten. Dieses Lied gab mir das Gefühl, mein inneres Selbst in die ganze Welt schreien zu wollen. In den meisten ihrer Songs geben Mumford & Sons dir dieses Gefühl. Dieses Lied war mir sehr wichtig, um zu verstehen, dass jeder von uns zerbrechliche Gedanken hat. Und wenn du sie laut schreist, wollen sich die Leute dir anschließen, weil sie sich wahrscheinlich ähnlich fühlen.
One Day – Paolo Nutini
The day I discovered Paolo Nutini, was the day I wanted to add a soulful vibe to my song writing. The way he sings makes you feel complete. I don’t know how to explain it, but in this song, every part and every single word is sung in such a perfect way that you can feel all the emotion he wants to communicate. This song made me understand the power of a soul voice, a voice that comes from the heart and that speaks for you. A voice that is the mirror of your soul and that comes from the inside. It seems a little bit to be the emotion you feel when you listen to Sam Cooke, an emotion that is pure and voice driven. You can hear that it comes from the inside and you cannot stop listening to it. “One Day” introduced me to the soul music, which is now a big part of my song-writing.
Der Tag, an dem ich Paolo Nutini entdeckte, war der Tag, an dem ich meinem Songwriting eine gefühlvolle Atmosphäre verleihen wollte. Durch die Art, wie er singt, fühlst du dich vollkommen. Ich weiß nicht, wie ich es erklären soll. Aber in diesem Lied wird jeder Teil und jedes einzelne Wort so perfekt gesungen, dass du alle Emotionen spüren kannst, die er kommunizieren möchte. Dieses Lied ließ mich die Kraft einer Soulstimme verstehen. Einer Stimme, die von Herzen kommt und für dich spricht. Eine Stimme, die der Spiegel deiner Seele ist und von innen kommt. Es scheint ein bisschen die Emotion zu sein, die du fühlst, wenn du Sam Cooke hörst. Eine Emotion, die rein und sprachgesteuert ist. Du kannst hören, dass es von innen kommt und du kannst nicht aufhören, es zu hören. “One Day” führte mich in die Soul-Musik ein, die heute einen großen Teil meines Songwritings ausmacht.
