Nick Drake, Tim Buckley, Van Morrison – Namen, die einem schon mal in den Sinn kommen, wenn man der melancholischen Musik von Grant Davidson aka Slow Leaves lauscht. Der Kanadier ist ein grandioser Songschreiber und begnadeter Storyteller. Überzeugen kann man sich davon auch auf seinem neuen Album „Holiday“, das soeben via Make My Day Records erschienen ist. Dass es überhaupt erschienen ist, ist fast schon ein Glücksfall. Denn nach dem Release des Vorgängers „Shelf Life“ (2020) stand Davidson gar nicht mehr der Sinn nach neuer Musik. Er fühlte sich leer. „Ich fing an, nach einem neuen Job zu suchen. Aber Beschäftigungsalternativen während einer Pandemie sind nicht gerade im Übermaß vorhanden“, so Davidson. In der Zwischenzeit habe er zum Spaß Musik aufgenommen und versucht, nicht alles zu überdenken. Er vermied den Impuls, „jedes Lied in ein persönliches Manifest zu verwandeln.“ Herausgekommen ist ein wunderbar zeitloses Album, dem man unbedingt mal seine Lauscher leihen sollte. Bed

Exercise
I try to workout at least a couple times a week. As I get older, I realize the increasing importance of exercise. I am lazy by nature. (foto: grant davidson)
In Studio
I descend to my basement studio to work on music. This is where I recorded all of my newest album ‚Holiday‘, a collection of songs I wrote and recorded as the world was shutting down. The process gave me a much needed escape from everything that was happening in the news at that time. (foto: grant davidson)

Walking Dog
I take my dog Charlie for a walk. I note that he often has his nose to the ground and focuses more on details rather than the big picture. He doesn’t seem to be worried for instance about the passing of time or matters of morality. I feel reassured by this thought. He is not well trained. (foto: karen lind)
