Friend Opportunity – Deerhoof
The first song I ever heard by Deerhoof was „The Perfect Me“ and it totally blew me away. I was 17 or 18 at the time and had never been introduced to music like theirs before. I fell in love with drummer Greg Saunier after watching numerous live videos and learning how he pushes and pulls songs apart live. It opened my eyes to the possibility of music and created a curiosity I haven’t lost.

Der erste Song, den ich jemals von Deerhoof hörte, war „The Perfect Mile“. Er hat mich damals total umgehauen. Ich war 17, 18 Jahre alt und hatte solche Musik noch nie zuvor gehört. Nachdem ich mehrere Live-Videos der Band gesehen hatte, habe ich mich auch total in Drummer Greg Saunier verliebt und gelernt, wie er so einen Song live pusht und auseinandernimmt. Der Song hat mir die Augen geöffnet, was mit Musik möglich ist und hat eine Neugier in mir geweckt, die ich nie verloren habe.
Madvillainy – Madvillain
I was always kind of unsure about rap music. I obviously had heard numerous songs on the radio but never thought it was for me until I had heard this record. MF Doom is now one of my favourite all time artists. This record is a bonafide classic and a must listen for anyone who considers themselves a fan of hip hop.
Ich war mir in Sachen Rap-Musik irgendwie immer unsicher. Natürlich habe ich zahlreiche Songs im Radio gehört, aber mich nie angesprochen gefühlt, ehe ich diese Platte erstmals hörte. MF Doom ist nun einer meiner liebsten Künstler überhaupt. Diese Platte ist ein wunderbarer Klassiker und eine abolute Pflicht für alle Hip-Hop-Fans.
Room on Fire – The Strokes
I find myself coming back to this record all the time. What Julian Casablancas sings about on this record really resonated with me at a low period in my life and I know every song like the back of my hand. It encapsulates everything I love about rock and roll music and if you haven’t read Meet Me in the Bathroom yet I highly recommend it!
Irgendwie finde ich immer zu dieser Platte zurück. Was Julian Casablancas da singt, hat mich immer angesprochen, vor allem, als ich mich selbst in einem Tief befand. Ich kann alle Songs auswendig. Die Platte vereint alles, was ich am Rock ’n‘ Roll liebe. Und wenn du „Meet Me in the Bathroom“ noch nicht gelesen hast, empfehle ich es wärmstens!
Songs for the Deaf – Queens of the Stone Age
I was huge John Bonham fan and once I had discovered Dave Grohl was also a huge fan of his I really started paying attention to this record because the drumming is phenomenal. I have spent numerous hours playing along to this record in hopes of being as good as him.
Ich war ein riesiger John-Bonham-Fan und als ich gehört hatte, dass Dave Grohl auch einer war, habe ich mich besonders mit dieser Platte befasst. Denn das Drumming ist hier phänomenal. Ich habe unzählige Stunden damit verbracht, zu dieser Platte zu spielen, in der Hoffnung, genauso gut zu werden wie er.
Pinkerton – Weezer
This one may seem kind of obvious but this record is very dear to my heart. Whenever I feel stuck in a rut this is the record I sit down on the drums for and play straight through. I know this record hit for hit, fill for fill and I never get tired of playing along to it. I don’t throw it on as often anymore but this was an early guiding light for me and will never fall out of my practice regime.
Das mag sehr offensichtlich erscheinen, aber diese Platte ist meinem Herzen ganz nah. Immer wenn ich das Gefühl habe, nicht vorwärts zu kommen, lege ich sie auf, setze mich an die Drums und spiele drauf los. Ich kenne diese Aufnahmen Hit für Hit, Stück für Stück, und ich werde nie müde, mitzuspielen. Zwar lege ich die Platte nicht mehr so häufig auf, wie früher, aber sie war ein frühes Vorbild und wird immer zu meinem Übungsrepertoire gehören.
