Umtriebig: Das aufstrebende Teenager-Trio HotWax – bestehend aus Tallulah Sim-Savage, Lola Sam and Alfie Sayers – hat Mitte Oktober seine zweite EP „Invite me, kindly“ via Marathon Artists veröffentlicht. Es ist der zweite Streich der Band in diesem Jahr, nachdem sie im Mai bereits die hochgelobte Debüt-EP „A Thousand Times“ vorgelegt hatte. Zwei Säulen eines ereignisreichen Jahres für das Dreiergespann aus Großbritannien. Das sah unter anderem Auftritte bei All Points East (wo Yeah Yeah Yeahs der Band den Song „Maps“ widmeten), Reading + Leeds (als Headliner auf der BBC Introducing-Bühne) sowie bei The Great Escape vor. Gerade ist die Band auf Nordamerika- und UK-Supporttour mit Royal Blood. Vorab standen uns die drei HotWax-Girls für unsere My-Soundtrack-Reihe Rede und Antwort.
Zero – Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Yeah Yeah Yeahs are my all time favourite band and this song always lifts my spirits and makes me feel powerful. It’s been played at special moments of my life so I have very fond memories. My mum would always play it when I was younger as it’s one of her favorite songs too.

Die Yeah Yeah Yeahs sind meine absolute Lieblingsband. Dieser Song hebt immer meine Stimmung und gibt mir ein starkes Gefühl. Er wurde in besonderen Momenten meines Lebens gespielt, daher habe ich sehr schöne Erinnerungen daran. Meine Mutter hat es immer gespielt, als ich jünger war, da es auch eines ihrer Lieblingslieder ist.
Made To Parade – Queens of the Stone Age
Since their new album ‘In Times New Roman’ coming out I have fallen in love with Queens of the Stone Age, I’ve been lucky enough to see them twice since. This song feels so special to me, the outro melody gives me that feeling you sometimes get when listening to a song where it feels like its the end of the world as you’re watching it happen but you also have come to terms with it. The lyrics in this album are amazing, in this song I love the line ’so you’re made to parade with the mess you made’.
Seit ihrem neuen Album „In Times New Roman“ habe ich mich in Queens of the Stone Age verliebt und hatte das Glück, sie seitdem zweimal zu sehen. Dieses Lied fühlt sich für mich so besonders an. Die Outro-Melodie gibt mir das Gefühl, das man manchmal hat, wenn man ein Lied hört, bei dem man das Gefühl hat, das Ende der Welt zu erleben, aber man hat sich auch damit abgefunden. Die Lyrics in diesem Album sind großartig, in diesem Lied liebe ich die Zeile „so you’re made to parade with the mess you made.“
Working For The Man – PJ Harvey
In the last few months I have really gotten into PJ Harvey, her lyricism feels so intimate and raw but the thing I find most interesting is that the way she delivers the song and the production always sounds and feels like what the lyrics are saying. Down to the guitar tones the drum sound or the breathiness or depth in her voice, it feels like art. I love the drum sound in this song and the low bass synth sound, the song makes you feel uncomfortable but the the dryness of the vocal makes it so close and intimate.
In den letzten Monaten habe ich mich wirklich mit PJ Harvey beschäftigt, ihre Lyrik fühlt sich so intim und roh an, aber was ich am interessantesten finde, ist, dass die Art und Weise, wie sie den Song vorträgt, und die Produktion immer so klingen und sich anfühlen, wie es die Lyrics vorgeben. Bis hin zu den Gitarrentönen, dem Schlagzeugklang oder der Hauch und Tiefe ihrer Stimme fühlt es sich wie Kunst an. Ich liebe den Drum-Sound in diesem Song und den tiefen Bass-Synthesizer-Sound. Bei dem Song fühlt man sich unwohl, aber die Trockenheit des Gesangs macht ihn so nah und intim.
Finger – Ty Segall (Deforming Lobes Version)
I’ve played guitar since I was 8 but I was never really particularly into guitarists or guitar parts, I just felt a need to play an instrument. When I was 14 I discovered Ty Segall through a friend and that’s the first time I felt totally inspired by a guitar player. The controlled mess and discordant notes made me feel something strong. This album of live tracks is insanely good and I LOVE this version of Finger. The way he builds the suspense for half the song until the riff comes in, is so good!!!!!
Ich spiele seit meinem achten Lebensjahr Gitarre, habe mich aber nie besonders für Gitarristen oder Gitarrenparts interessiert, ich hatte einfach das Bedürfnis, ein Instrument zu spielen. Als ich 14 war, entdeckte ich Ty Segall durch einen Freund und das war das erste Mal, dass ich mich völlig von einem Gitarristen inspiriert fühlte. Das kontrollierte Durcheinander und die dissonanten Töne ließen mich etwas Starkes spüren. Dieses Album mit Live-Tracks ist wahnsinnig gut und ich LIEBE diese Version von „Finger“. Die Art und Weise, wie er die Hälfte des Songs lang Spannung aufbaut, bis das Riff einsetzt, ist so gut!!!!!
Soul of a man – Beck
Beck has inspired me so much growing up, how he mixed genres so effortlessly amazes me. I love the slidey reverse guitar parts in this song. The simplicity is so important for this song and something I am taking inspiration from for writing. I feel a lot of production at the moment is way too filled with layers and leaves no space for a song to breathe.
Als ich aufwuchs, hat mich Beck so sehr inspiriert. Wie mühelos er Genres vermischt, verblüfft mich. Ich liebe die gleitenden Reverse-Gitarrenparts in diesem Song. Die Einfachheit ist für dieses Lied so wichtig und etwas, das mich beim Schreiben inspiriert. Ich habe im Moment das Gefühl, dass viele Produktionen heutzutage viel zu vielschichtig sind und einem Song keinen Raum zum Atmen lassen.
