Gute Nachricht für alle Fans von Zach Condon: Beirut haben dieser Tage ein neues Album angekündigt. „Gallipoli“ soll am 1. Februar 2019 erscheinen. Das hat das Label 4AD bestätigt.
Entstanden ist das neue, 12 Tracks umfassende Machwerk offenbar in Italien und Berlin, wo Condon mittlerweile lebt. Die Arbeiten daran begannen laut Pressemitteilung offenbar schon im Winter 2016, als Condon seine Farfisa-Orgel wiederentdeckte, die er schon auf zwei Beirut-Alben spielte („Gulag Orkestar“ (2006) und „The Flying Club Cup“ (2007)).

Einen ersten Vorgeschmack gibt es auch schon: den Titeltrack des Albums. Condon: “We stumbled into the medieval-fortressed island town of Gallipoli one night and followed a brass band procession fronted by priests carrying a statue of the town’s saint through the winding narrow streets behind what seemed like the entire town. The next day I wrote the song entirely in one sitting, pausing only to eat.”
Den Song wird er sicherlich auch live mit im Gepäck haben. Für 2019 haben Beirut erste Tourdaten bekanntgegeben:
