My Soundtrack: Tora

Unsere My-Soundtrack-Post kommt diesmal aus Down Under: Tora-Sänger Jo Lowenthal, dessen Band gerade die EP „Eat the Sun“ veröffentlicht hat, hat sich die Zeit genommen, uns seinen persönlichen Soundtrack aufzustellen – und dabei verraten, was ihn „an seinem G-Punkt trifft“.

1) Oceaán – Candour
To me this is one of the most inventive songs I’ve heard in the last 6 months. I love vocals melodies, and the production techniques, but my favourite part is the minimal section with the flutey/pan sounding synth hook, gets me every time. This song inspired me to experiment more with production ideas and vocal effects.

2) Kaasi – Lisse
This song grabbed me from the word go, I dig the way it just coasts along with this chilled housey vibe. Vocal cutting when it is done well like this just hits me right on the g spot.

3) Mansionair – Hold me Down (feat. Revier)
I just love how they’ve manager to make a pop song last for almost 6 minutes, yet it doesn’t feel like it drags on at all. His vocals are beautiful and full of emotion, especially in the chorus. Very hooky guitar part and the synth sounds really cool how it warps and modulates slightly. But the part that I always wait for in this song is the drop with the almost haunting pitch shifted vocals.

4) The Kite String Tangle – Stone Cold
You know when you listen to a song and it feels like you know it from somewhere? Well that’s the feeling I had the first time I heard this song, it’s so catchy that it feels like you know it already the first time you hear it. Tiana Khasi’s vocal performance on this song is perfect, I couldn’t ask for a more catchy chorus, it just gets stuck in my head for days.
Brilliant production as well, warm synths, crispy drums and percussion sounds.

5) Joy. – Stone
It just blows me away that this girl is 17 and produces the whole thing herself. She sounds like an angel, and you can tell she really feels what she’s singing, it’s easy to get lost in her spell. Really tasty use of saxophone, and again a very catchy chorus.
