Deaf Havana haben ihre Fans mit ihrem fünften Album “Rituals”, das am 3. August erschienen ist, dann doch überrascht. Das, was die britischen Alternative-Rocker da vorgelegt haben, hat dann doch weniger mit dem Hard Rock der Vergangenheit gemein als vielmehr mit Hard Pop, wenn man so will. Die komplette Kapelle stand uns jetzt für unsere “My Soundtrack”-Reihe zur Verfügung. Ob die Band noch mehr Überraschungen auf Lager hat?

Ryan Adams – This House Is Not For Sale
Ryan Adams is one of my all time favourite artists, his lyrics and melodies just floor me every time. This song in particular has a weird underlying level of sadness that isn’t immediately apparent, for me it’s absolutely perfect.
Ryan Adams ist einer meiner liebsten Künstler aller Zeiten. Seine Lyrics und Melodien plätten mich einfach jedes Mal. Dieser Song insbesondere. Er hat diese unterschwellige Traurigkeit, die nicht sofort offensichtlich ist. Für mich absolut perfekt.
Bruce Springsteen – Thunder Road
I’m a huge huge Springsteen fan, I have always admired his ability to fabricate stories and make them his own (I can only assume he hasn’t done everything he sings about). The lyrics are so amazing to this song in particular, it’s basically poetry, whenever I’m in a creative slump I will always listen to this song.
Ich bin ein riesiger Springsteen-Fan. Ich habe immer seine Fähigkeit bewundert, Stories zu fabrizieren und sie sich anzueignen (ich gehe mal davon aus, dass er nicht alles, über das er singt, auch selbst erlebt hat). Der Text zu diesem Song ist unglaublich, im Grunde schon Poesie. Immer wenn ich gerade einen kreativen Hänger habe, höre ich ihn mir an.
Björk – Play Dead
I remember hearing this song as a child when my parents played it, even now it fills me with a weird nostalgia that I can’t quite place. I think it was the first time I’d ever heard non conventional vocal melodies, the notes she chooses are so bizarre but so inspiring also.
Ich erinnere mich daran, dass ich den Song oft als Kind hörte, wenn meine Eltern ihn abspielten. Ich habe immer noch dieses ungreifbare Nostalgie-Gefühl, wenn ich ihn höre. Ich glaube, es war das erste Mal, dass ich solch unkonventionelle Gesangsmelodien hörte. Die Noten, die sie wählt, sind so bizarr, aber auch so inspirierend.
Michael Jackson – Beat It
Michael Jackson was my first musical love, I remember being five years old and trying to copy his dance moves. This song in particular for me, is one of the greatest vocal performances on any record ever. The opening line is so strong and the control in his voice is something that I have been heavily influenced by over the years.
Michael Jackson war meine erste musikalische Liebe. Als ich fünf Jahre alt war, habe ich versucht, seine Tanzschritte zu kopieren. Dieser Song hatte es mir besonders angetan, eine der größten Gesangsleistungen aller Zeiten. Die Opening Line ist unheimlich stark. Die Art und Weise, wie er seine Stimme kontrolliert, hat mich sehr beeinflusst.
Counting Crows – Round Here
Counting Crows is one of my all time favourite bands, every time I’m anxious or don’t feel myself I’ll listen to “August and Everything After”. I remember I first heard this song on MTV years ago and i just because obsessed with the way Adam Duritz spins stories and uses metaphors in such a diverse way. This is potentially my favourite song of all time.
Counting Crows sind eine meiner absoluten Lieblingsbands. Immer wenn ich mich nicht gut fühle, höre ich “August and Everything After”. This was one of the first covers I played in front of an audience. No one will ever be able to replicate the magik that Flea, Smith & Frusciante have created in this song. I will never cover this song again.
Das war eines der ersten Cover, die ich je vor einer Live-Crowd spielte. Niemand wird jemals diese Magie erzeugen können, die Flea, Smith und Frusciante da in diesem Song erschaffen haben. Ich werde diesen Song nie wieder covern.

This song has the ability to paralyse me. The ambience takes me on a journey through the dark where all my fears live and makes me confront them. I guess this is another song that helps me meditate.
Dieser Song kann mich lähmen. Das Ambiente nimmt mich mit auf eine Reise durch die Dunkelheit, in der all meine Ängste leben und hilft mir, sie zu konfrontieren. Einer dieser Songs, die mir helfen, zu meditieren.

Windows down, volume up and shades on. I can’t help but nod my head to that beat baby! ‘Out on bail, fresh out of jail, California dreamin’.

Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit
Cliche I know, but this was genuinely the first song that made me even think about playing drums. I remember my Dad buying me Nevermind for Christmas and playing this song obnoxiously loud over his stereo on Christmas Day.
Ein Klischee, ich weiß. Aber das war der erste Song, der mich darüber nachdenken ließ, Drums zu spielen. Ich weiß noch, dass mein Dad mir “Nevermind” zu Weihnachten schenkte und ich den Song über den Feiertag sehr laut auf seiner Stereoanlage spielte.
Goo Goo Dolls – Iris
I’m not sure why I initially had such an attraction to this song, but the first time I heard it, I loved it. Maybe it’s because it was the first well written song I’d heard with a 3/4 to 4/4 time change, or maybe because it’s just a banger. Nevertheless, me and my wife picked it for our first dance, and I still absolutely love it.
Ich weiß nicht, warum ich mich so schnell so sehr zu diesem Song hingezogen fühlte, als ich ihn das erste Mal hörte – aber ich liebte ihn. Vielleicht weil es der erste gut geschriebene Song war, den ich hörte, mit einem 3/4-4/4-Wechsel, oder weil er einfach ein Banger war. Egal, meine Frau und ich suchten ihn uns für unseren ersten Tanz aus, und ich liebe ihn immer noch.

I absolutely love this band, and I was lucky enough to see them about 4 days ago. There is no better feeling than being at a festival with your mates, and hearing one of your favourite bands play one of your favourite songs.
Ich liebe diese Band einfach und hatte das Glück, sie vor vier Tagen live zu erleben. Es gibt kein besseres Gefühl, als mit deinen Kumpels auf ein Festival zu gehen und deine Lieblingsband einen deiner Lieblingssongs spielen zu hören.
The Kooks – Seaside
This song just reminds me of being by the coast, in the height of summer. Me and our old vocalist, Ryan, used to skip college and just head to the coast to meet up with our girlfriends and best mates. We’d just listen to music and drink beer all night.
Dieser Song erinnert mich daran, im Hochsommer an der Küste zu sein. Unser alter Sänger Ryan und ich haben früher gerne mal das College geschwänzt und haben unsere Kumpel und Freundinnen an der Küste getroffen. Wir hörten Musik und tranken die ganze Nacht Bier.
James Bay – Craving
I’m not a massive James Bay fan if I’m honest, but when we had our first daughter he was the only person that could make her go to sleep. We’d listen to this day in, day out and eventually I grew to love it.

There’s something special about this song for me but it’s hard to explain, maybe it’s the nostalgia of when I first heard it but it just gives me that feeling of ‘everything’s gonna be alright’.
Der Song hat für mich etwas Besonderes, das schwer in Worte zu fassen ist. Vielleicht hat es etwas mit Nostalgie zu tun. Er gibt mir das Gefühl, dass alles schon in Ordnung kommt.

This is my go to late night song, it’s soft, smooth and extremely emotive therefore perfect accompanied by a delicious glass of whiskey.
Mein Go-To-Nacht-Song. Er ist soft, smooth und extrem emotional. Ein Glas Whiskey passt perfekt dazu.
Noah Gundersen – Ledges
This is a song I will never forget. (I made sure by tattooing the lyrics on my chest haha) I think Noah Gundersen is one of those rare artists that has the amazing ability of portraying the emotion he’s feeling in a song and making you as the listener feel it to.
Diesen Song werde ich nie vergessen. Das stellte ich übrigens sicher, indem ich mir den Text auf die Brust tätowieren ließ. Noah Gundersen ist einer dieser seltenen Künstler, die es schaffen, ein Gefühl in ihrem Song abzubilden, das der Hörer wirklich nachempfinden kann.

You know when you accidentally find yourself in the perfect situation? Maybe the suns out and you’re in a new city with good company and you’re half way through the 6 pack (8 pack) of beer you bought earlier. Well this song is for that exact moment, the come up.
Kennst du das Gefühl, wenn man sich plötzlich in der perfekten Situation wiederfindet? Wenn die Sonne gerade untergegangen ist, du in einer neuen Stadt mit toller Begleitung bist und dich gerade halb durch einen Six-Pack Bier gekämpft hast, den du kurz zuvor gekauft hast? I think this is the best hip-hop song ever written, hands down. Perfect to chill or turn up to!
Ich glaube, das ist der beste Hip-Hop-Song, der je geschrieben wurde. Man kann dazu wunderbar chillen oder aufdrehen.

Nine Inch Nails – The Great Below
This song is probably the one that made me truly realise that Nine Inch Nails were my favourite band. It is so delicately angsty and melodic – with it all coming to a head towards the end. Gives me goosebumps every time and is the embodiment of why I feel Nine Inch Nails are the best band in the world.
Dieser Song ließ mich realisieren, dass Nine Inch Nails meine Lieblingsband waren. Er ist so wunderbar ängstlich und melodisch. Er gibt mir jedes Mal Gänsehaut und verkörpert alles, das Nine Inch Nails zur besten Band der Welt macht.
Sun Kil Moon – Micheline
This song is so perfectly melancholic and is essentially an 8 minute story told over some beautiful classical guitar. Mark Kozelek (Sun Kil Moon) is an incredible lyricist and this is one of my favourite examples of this. Was one of the first songs that made me realise an 8 minute song with just vocals and a guitar could be incredible completely down to the storytelling and the emotion behind it.
Dieser Song ist so perfekt melancholisch und eigentlich eine Acht-Minuten-Story, die von einer wunderbaren klassischen Gitarre erzählt wird. Mark Kozelek (Sun Kil Moon) ist ein unglaublicher Texter und dies ist eines der besten Beispiele dafür. Einer der ersten Songs, die mich realisieren ließen, dass acht Minuten Gesang und Gitarre ganz unglaublich sein können, wenn Storytelling und das Gefühl stimmen.
The Smiths – I Know It’s Over
I first heard this song when I was about 14 and it was probably the first song that just made me burst into tears. Absolutely incredible. Morrissey and Marr on top form are unbeatable and this is the best example of that.
Ich hörte den Song erstmals mit 14 und es war wohl der erste Song, der mich je zum Weinen brachte. Einfach unglaublich. Morrissey und Marr sind in Top-Form unschlagbar und das ist das beste Beispiel dafür.
Hammock – Dissonance
Hammock are probably the most recent band that I’ve realised I absolutely love. This is one of their few songs that actually has vocals and it is enhanced as a result. So slowly melancholy it is the only song I now listen to on a hangover or just not in the best mood.
Hammock sind wahrscheinlich die aktuellste Band, die ich wirklich liebe. Dieser Song ist einer der wenigen, der über Gesang verfügt und dadurch besser geworden ist. So melancholisch. Ich höre ihn gerne, wenn ich einen Kater habe oder schlecht gelaunt bin.
The Chemical Brothers – Come With Us
The Chemical Brothers are the main act that made me realise that I love electronic dance music and ‘Come With Us’ is probably the best example of that for me. Never fails to get my night going.
Die Chemical Brothers sind hauptverantwortlich dafür, dass ich mich in EDM verliebt habe. “Come With Us” ist das perfekte Beispiel dafür. Holt mich jedes Mal ab.
