„Where’s the Revolution“: Depeche Mode mit neuem Clip

Mitte März kommt das neue Depeche Mode-Album „Spirit“ auf den Markt. Mit „Where’s The Revolution“ veröffentlichten die Briten dieser Tage die erste Single daraus, zu der jetzt auch der offizielle Clip erschienen ist. 

Auf „Where’s The Revolution“ zeigen Depeche Mode klare Kante. Auch politisch. Kennt man so aus jüngerer Vergangenheit der Band gar nicht mehr unbedingt. Durchaus wohltuend.

Regisseurs des Clips? Die Frage erübrigt sich fast. Klar, Anton Corbijn. Der zeichnete ja bereits für einige legendäre Clips der Band verantwortlich. Für „Where’s The Revolution“ hat er sich für eine Schwarz-Weiß-Ästhetik entschieden, die Band macht dabei dann und wann einen auf Karl Marx. Gebrochen wird der Clip hie und da durch ein feuriges Rot – die Farbe der Revolution. Auch im Film „Schindlers Liste“ bediente man sich ja einem ähnlichen Kunstgriff. Statt eines Mädchens mit einem roten Mantel kommt hier Gahan mit einem roten Anzug um die Ecke.

Im amerikanischen „Rolling Stone“-Magazin verriet Gahan, dass die Wahl Donald Trumps zum US-Präsidenten das Album stark beeinflusst habe: „Martin [Gore] and I both live in America, so we’re both very affected by what goes on (…) Martin said to me, ‚I know to some people, this will come off as rich rock stars living in their big houses in Santa Barbara with not a care in the world, and it’s true that we’re very fortunate. But that doesn’t mean you stop caring about what’s going on in the world. It’s really affecting me.‘ And I said, ‚I understand. I feel the same.'“
