My Soundtrack: Y’akoto

1) Bjork – Unravel

„Homogenic“ is one of my favourite LPs. Unravel’s composition is minimal, refreshing and melancholic. Bjorks art has always accompanied me throughout my teenage years and beyond. I respect her a lot and would love to just sit next to her and breath the same air …

2) M.I.A – Galang

When M.I.A’s music came out, I was still in school and very happy to get introduced to this artist. She is a true pioneer for her style. She brilliantly combines, visual arts and music and writes couragous lyrics. I like the way she artisticly makes political statements and combines them with a stubborn media appearance. Her interviews are very interesting to watch. She mixes everything. Culture, art, identity, and passion. That’s what I call a contemporary music.

3) Sade – Pearls

„There is a woman in Somalia …“ I love the way this track starts. I’m a big fan of story telling. I’m deeply convinced that the most effective way to reach peoples hearts is to narrate a story based upon personal experience. Even if you invent a character or tell somebody else’s story. It has been a true inspiration to how I write my songs. Sade is a brilliant songwriter. I feel deep gratitude for her music and i worship her talent as a songwriter.

„There is a woman in Somalia …“ Ich liebe es, wie dieser Track beginnt.

4) The Noisettes – Count of Monte Christo

Front-woman Shingai is not only a writer, composer and singer. She is also one of the most powerful bass players I’ve ever seen live. I was still in school when I convinced my former boyfriend to drive me to berlin over night just to see them play. I love rock music and Shingai was the woman I wanted to be when I was 17. Shingai Shoniwa is someone who just hypnotizes you on stage. Count of Monte Christo is one of my favorite songs from the Noisettes.

5) Matthew Herbert – You’re unknown to me

„Bodily functions“ is one of my favourite all-time LPs. Herbert is one of my favourite Artists ever and I would really love to work with his big band project one day..When I was 13 I bought my first Herbert LP and never stopped listening until today.
