“Show Your Teeth” heißt das neue Album des Amsterdamer Indie-Rock-Trios Bombay. Ein Album, das ein neues Kapitel in der Band-Geschichte einleitet, denn seit dem Vorgänger ist viel passiert, Umbesetzung inklusive. Die kreative Kraft hinter dem Projekt ist aber nach wie vor Sänger Mathias Janmaat – und der zeigte uns glücklicherweise nicht die Zähne, sondern die fünf Songs, die in seinem Leben eine tragende Rolle spielen und gespielt haben.

Nirvana – Drain you
This is one of the first songs that got me into playing guitar. I must have been around 8 or 9 when I heard it for the first time and instantly became a fan.
Das ist einer der Songs, die mich dazu brachten, Gitarre zu spielen. Ich muss damals wohl 8 oder 9 gewesen sein, als ich ihn das erste Mal hörte. Ich wurde sofort Fan.
Beck – Cellphone’s Dead
I’ve always loved how Beck incorporates samples and freaky sounds in his songs and that’s been a big influence for me when I’m writing for Bombay.
Ich habe es immer gemocht, wie Beck Samples und freakige Sounds in seine Songs integriert hat. Er ist ein großer Einfluß für mich, wenn ich für Bombay schreibe.
Blur – Beetlebum
Blur has also been a big inspiration for both of the Bombay records, in particular the way they make use of backing vocals in the songs. I think you can definitely hear some of that influence in the end part of our song ‘Love Your Enemies’.
Blur ist eine große Inspiration für beide Bombay-Platten gewesen, vor allem hinsichtlich des Einsatzes von Backing Vocals. Ich denke, man kann diesen Einfluß auch raushören, vor allem am Ende des Lieds “Love Your Enemies”.
The Strokes – Soma
This song and the rest of ‘Is this it’ for me is really tightly connected with my teen years, I remember hanging out with all of my friends and drinking way too much to this record. Some pretty good memories :)
Dieser Song und der Rest von “Is This it” ist für mich sehr mit meinen Teenager-Jahren verbunden. Ich erinnere mich, wie ich zu dieser Platte mit meinen Freunden abhing und dabei zu viel trank. Schöne Erinnerungen :)
Deerhunter – Sleepwalking
This is one of the more recent bands that really made an impact on me, I love all their records but for some reason Monomania feels special to me.
I started listening to that record a lot before we recorded our new album and it was a big reference for me in terms of vocal sound and performance.
Eine der jüngeren Bands, die großen Eindruck bei mir hinterlassen haben. Ich liebe alle ihre Platten, aber aus irgendeinem Grund fühlt sich “Monomania” für mich besonders an. Ich habe dieses Album viel gehört, als wir unser neues Album aufgenommen haben. Eine große Referenz für mich hinsichtlich Gesang und Performance.
