My Soundtrack: Laurie Sherman (Treetop Flyers)

1 – Françoise Hardy – Je n’attends Plus Personne.

I love the guitar on this track its one of the best fuzz sounds i’ve ever heard. The whole production of this track is amazing combine that with amazing playing and a killer vocal hook and you’ve got an epic piece of music.

2 – Rodion G.A – In Linistea Noptil

This is a new discovery for me. Really love the sound of this track – it has an almost low-fi dub production to it. Rodion G.A are a 70s band from Romania, I really recommend checking out more of their stuff as the sounds are really cool with some great tracks. A lot of it is crazy LoFi instrumental music that verges on electronic music.

3 – Alice Coltrane – Journey In Satchindananda

This is another new discovery for me. I have had this track on repeat for the last 3 months. Cecil McBee on Bass and Rashied Ali on Drums create the coolest groove on this track. I really love how the track is just one groove and the same chords all the way through. It is a really refreshing change from the standard verse chorus song especially in todays musical climate where a lot of songs follow the same formula. The track also demonstrates how amazing and disciplined the players are with no one trying push or pull the groove or take it into a build, they are happy to just sit on it and create and amazing groove allowing each instrument to have its space. You’d be hard pushed to find a band who could do this now.

4 – Beak> – There’s No One

Im a massive fan of Beak> and this is my favourite track of their last EP. Great production and playing. Love the sounds on this track and the backing vocal hook that sounds like its going through a spring reverb in a guitar amp. Really love the spoken work freak out bit in the middle that gets really tense and how the drums and bass just slip back in.

5 – Bill Fay – Screams In the Ears

Bill Fay has got so many great songs, but this has to be my personal favourite. Love the lyrics in this song with him describing being at a party he really doesn’t want to be at. The drumming is amazing and is a sound and style of drumming that you never hear anyone more. If I could drum, this is what I would want to sound like! The piano riff is also great and really catchy. The track just has a really exciting and engaging feel. It has a really simple structure that really serves the song helps you focus on the lyrics.
